Purple For Premies In Uganda
World Prematurity Day is a global awareness day highlighting the scale and impact of preterm birth and the urgent need for better care and family support.
In Uganda Preterm Infants Parents Network Uganda leads activities that include nationwide awareness through radio TV and social media promotion of the purple symbol representing the 1 in 10 babies born preterm community walks and public engagement events and fundraising to distribute essential supplies to preterm mothers and babies.
PIPNU’s focus areas include hospital outreach at Kawempe National Referral Hospital and Mulago Women’s Specialized Hospital free Retinopathy of Prematurity screenings promotion of Kangaroo Mother Care breastfeeding and early nutrition and sharing parent stories and clinical information through media platforms.
Public participation is encouraged through wearing purple on November 17 sharing preterm birth facts donating or volunteering with preterm support organizations and amplifying the campaign using #WorldPrematurityDay and #PurpleForPreemies.
